The HIV Counseling and Testing Counselor is responsible for providing bilingual, culturally competent anonymous and confidential HIV antibody counseling, testing, referrals, and related services in English and Spanish. The HIV counseling and testing counselor will provide sensitive harm reduction counseling, HIV prevention education, and referrals to clients accessing HIV testing. The HIV Counseling and Testing Counselor educates individuals about HIV and antibody testing. Performs HIV risk assessments, HIV testing, disclosure of HIV testing results, and enhanced risk assessments to individuals who test for HIV.
Bachelor of Science/Arts in Psychology or related fields preferred or in lieu of Degree, 4 years of experience in related field. High School Diploma or equivalent. State HIV counseling and Training certification preferred. Phlebotomy certification, preferred. NJ Dept of Health & Senior Services certification for HIV Counselor preferred HIV Disease The Basic Facts Basic Counseling and Communication Skills The Stages of Behavior Change Risk Reduction Counseling Test Decision Counseling, Results Counseling and Partner Notification Counseling. Previous HIV counseling and/or outreach experience one year minimum, preferred. Previous experience with people living with HIV/AIDS, preferred. Knowledge of community services preferred. Computer literate, a plus. Proficient at Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Communication/telephone skills, typing.
